Eli Young Band, LOCASH, and Muscadine Bloodline February, 9th 2018 Concert Review
Last night, The Bluestone was packed with country music fans for a sold out show featuring upcoming duo, Muscadine Bloodline along with the established acts, LoCash and Eli Young Band.
This was only the second time Charlie Muncaster and Gary Stanton of Muscadine Bloodline have taken the stage in Columbus, Ohio. There was an obvious excitement throughout the crowd as the boys kicked off their set with their song, “Depending on The Night” from their EP. During each song, the crowd is met with fantastic harmonies from the two and guitar solos from Stanton. A cover of “Fishin’ in the Dark” and a performance of their recent single, “Movin’ On” kept the crowd enthusiastic and dancing. With just two songs of their set left, Muscadine Bloodline took a moment to thank the crowd for taking interest in their next song that helped to launch their career. As the boys continued into the song “Porch Swing Angel,” there was an indescribable feeling throughout the swaying crowd, which lit up the stage with their cellphones as Stanton sang “I wanna tell her how I feel, but I don’t wanna scare her away.” Their set ended with “Ginny,” a song about an ex-love that did not end on the best of terms.
Between sets, an impressive line formed at the merchandise table for a quick meet and greet with the Muscadine Bloodline boys. Others visited the bar or friends as excitement for LoCash to take the stage could be felt throughout the crowd.
Chris Lucas and Preston Brust of LoCash brought an uncanny energy to the stage of The Bluestone. Throughout their performance, Brust and Lucas took turns playing the guitar. If Lucas was on the guitar, Brust was moving and grooving on stage, vice versa. The two have highly harmonic voices and their interaction with the crowd brought it back to the basics of entertainers feeding from the crowd’s charged energy. The boys were clearly excited about the show, as they exclaimed this was their first time selling out a concert in Columbus, Ohio. They brought a beachy feel to a chilly winter night with their song, “Drunk, Drunk.” Brust took the opportunity to cheers his drink with fans in the front row. Other notable songs played by the duo included Keith Urban’s “You Gonna Fly” and Tim McGraw’s “Truck Yeah,” both of which were written by Lucas and Brust. A 90’s country music medley was used to test fan’s knowledge with songs like, Joe Diffie’s “Pick Up Man,” Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee” and Garth Brooks’ “Friends in Low Places.” Their set ended with an excited crowd dancing and yelling along to LoCash’s hit song, “I Love This Life.”
After a complete change of the stage’s set up, Eli Young Band took the stage. The crowd’s enthusiasm as the band took the stage was unbelievable. The highlight of their time on stage was their radio hits, as the crowd sang along to the indescribable vocals of the band’s front man, Mike Eli. Their stage presence was indescribable, especially lead guitarist James Young, who was often seen jumping around the stage and throwing guitar picks into the crowd. Slowing it down, Eli sang “She’s in my skin and bones, she’s my grace and glory, she’s a backroads home, she’s a long story” and touched the crowd as they listened intently to the new song from Eli Young Band’s most recent album, “Fingerprints.” When the band launched into “Drunk Last Night,” the crowd could be seen raising their drinks high into the air while screaming, dancing and singing along in excitement. Other singles like “Crazy Girl” and “Dust” acquired similar reactions from the entranced crowd.
“Sometimes you have your off days, sometimes you have more off days and it’s just one of those things,” Eli said reflecting on the band’s journey as country music artists and recognizing the importance of their fans, “thank you guys for being here tonight and singing along with us. This next one goes out to all those dreamers out there.”
The number one hit, “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” generated the largest reaction from the sold-out crowd. The crowd’s impressive sing along proves that a dream can carry you to the top, as long as you keep on dreaming – even if it breaks your heart.

It’s a great night to be at the Bluestone to see LANCO’s sold out show. Standing in line to go down to the meet and greet, the excitement is evident. As each group goes up, LANCO embraces them and is extremely personable and energetic. Several people have met the band before and recall on how far LANCO has come. I was fortunate enough to sit down with the Brandon Lancaster (lead singer), Chandler Baldwin (bass guitar), Jared Hampton (keyboards), Tripp Howell (drums), and Eric Steedly (guitar) and ask a couple of fun questions before the show.
The Bluestone: With your recent successes of Hallelujah Nights and selling out the Bluestone, what has been the most rewarding part?
Brandon Lancaster: I think the most rewarding part is nights like tonight where you actually get to show up and fans show up… To have a record out and have fans come out and actually sing along with us, that’s kind of what you dream of is everyone being in the same room at the same time and having these experiences. So the fact that we get to do this and our careers allow us to be here with all of these fans is probably the most rewarding part.
TB: What song do you think is your favorite and was the most fun to make?
Eric Steedly: Oh man, there were so many… “Singin’ at the Stars” was fun to make because the process… starts out with such an interesting bed of this jam of music, it’s just real calm and then the beat is very intricate and blows up in the end, so it was just shaping that in the studio was a really fun process…
BL: For me it was “Born To Love You” just the difference between where it started as a demo… and where it ended and I think the process of how it starts subtle and then ends to this really loud rocking song…
TB: What is one-thing fans don’t know about you that would be surprising to them?
BL: Maybe that we’ve been together 5 years and that we’ve actually been touring together for 5 years. A lot of people are just now finding out who we are, but we about 3 years ago loaded up in a RV and have been touring full time ever since…
TB: You guys have a really interesting story; to other musicians what would your advice be for getting into the business?
BL: Move to a place where it’s happening… If you want to be in country music Nashville is probably the spot. Don’t try to follow any formula, just make music that is honest to you because at the end of the night you have to play it… Do what you love… and it will grab attention to people more than I think people realize.

Chris Janson Concert Review – January 12th at The Bluestone in Columbus Ohio

Last night there was a massive snowstorm leaving the streets slick and icy, however the snow didn’t stand a chance to Chris Janson fans who were determined to make it to The Bluestone in Columbus, Ohio. Despite the terrible weather, The Bluestone was packed with country music lovers ready for a fun night.
The show kicks off with country newcomer, Jacob Powell. His raspy voice and cool demeanor sparks interest in the crowd. Sporting a leather jacket he brings a rocker edge to the Bluestone. Powell performs singles “Loud” and “The Bridge” as well as covering “Come Together” by the Beatles. This country rocker gets the crowd psyched for Chris Janson.
You can tell the crowd is getting anxious when Chris Janson’s name flashes across the stage screen and everyone erupts in excitement. As the band members begin to take their places it’s the moment everyone has been waiting for, Chris Janson! Janson struts onto the stage singing “Redneck Life” from his newest album Everybody. The entire crowd is singing along as Janson bounces around the stage. His stage presence is incredible and he really knows how to work the crowd. Not only does he shred on the harmonica, but continues to dance like nobody is watching.
What a Country Concert
Janson is such a genuine man and humble to be at The Bluestone. He gives a toast to the crowd for making it out in the mist of a snowstorm and states, “it’s so good to see you. You’re such a blessing.” It’s great to see an artist who appreciates their fans and gives their all on stage.
The show swings into full gear with fan favorite, “Fix A Drink.” As Janson waltzes across the stage he has a quirky and funny swagger. He goes on to teach the audience his signature silly dance moves and encourages everyone to let loose. You can tell he is extremely grateful to be performing and goes on to say, “Ohio was with me and for me before anyone else was with me and for me” helping him to pack the Bluestone twice.
As he moves to the piano he showcases another instrument that he’s mastered. Janson sings his own version of the classic “Piano Man” switching up the lyrics to fit tonight at the Bluestone. The night moves to a more serious note as Janson describes his inspiration for his newest and fastest growing single “Drunk Girl.” This song is very well written with its emotion filled lyrics and relatable storyline.
Inevitably the night draws to a close yet nobody is ready for the show to end. Janson belts out the song that launched his career “Buy Me A Boat”, which has everyone dancing and singing along.
Janson’s deep country twang and honky tonk silliness are the perfect combination for a fun show. Everybody left The Bluestone ready to buy tickets to Janson’s next concert.
