Charlie Daniels, born and raised in North Carolina, began playing the fiddle and guitar in several bands throughout his young adult life. At the age of 21 he decided to pursue a professional career in music. Daniels assembled his first rock and roll group named, The Jaguars. There was very little success with The Jaguars but Daniels continued to write songs including, One of “It Hurts Me”, which was recorded by Elvis Presley in 1963. In the late 60’s Daniels opted out of The Jaguars and after much practice, became one of the best fiddlers in Nashville, TN. He would focus his fiddle playing on the current day hits, including a lot of top songs from Bob Dylan, his popularity soared.
Mid 70’s was the year for his new band, The Charlie Daniels Band. After a run with the Southern Rock style, Charlie then decided to lean more towards a country music band, ultimately it was a career changing choice. Shortly after this decision, the single, “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, was released. It went straight to the number one spot and crossed over on to the pop charts at a number three spot. This song was named the Country Music Association’s Single of the Year. After this hit was released, their next album, Million Mile Reflections, became a multi-platinum success.

JOE NICHOLS: Country Jam 2015 Featuring: ERIC CHURCH
Another industry vet, WCOL welcomes Joe Nichols to this year’s Country Jam! Raised in Arkansas, Nichols got his first recording deal at age 19, and released his debut album Joe Nichols in 1996. Following poor sales, Nichols was dropped from the label and had trouble finding further success, even having to pick up odd jobs to pay his bills. In 1999, a friend of Nichols helped him get signed by Universal South Records, and Nichols released his second album in July of 2002. Man with a Memory proved to be a much bigger success than his debut, earning Nichols three Grammy nominations, ACM’s award for Top New Male Vocalist, and several singles, including his first number one hit, “Brokenheartsville”. Nichols catalogue has grown substantially then, with six more albums and four more number one singles, including “Tequila Makes Her Clothes Fall Off”, “Sunny and 75”, and “Yeah”. What will undeniably be an electric show, WCOL is thrilled to have Joe Nichols join us for this year’s Country Jam!
The two- day festival will be hosted at the historic Legend Valley Concert Venue and Campground located on Buckeye Lake, just thirty minutes east of downtown Columbus. 2015 will mark the 3rd year that WCOL Country Jam has taken place at the venue. The festival is packed with a multitude of country music acts from classic country, southern rock country, and modern country artists.
General Admission tickets are currently available. There are several camping options available to patrons. Tickets and camping passes are on-sale now and available at www.LegendValleyFestivals.com. Camping passes are sold separately.
The WCOL Country Jam is a country festival that has occurred annually for the last 10 years. Raised in Batesville, Mississippi, singer-songwriter Jameson Rodgers brings together electrified rock & roll and Country songwriting on his new self-titled EP, released in January of 2018, with songs featured on Spotify’s New Boots and Wild Country playlists as well as Sirius XM’s On The Horizon. In 2018, Rodgers also received the AIMP Nashville Rising Artist-Writer of the Year nomination for the third annual AIMP (Association of Independent Music Publishers) Nashville Awards. The former college baseball player, who landed a publishing deal with Combustion Music in 2014, scored his first songwriting cuts with Florida Georgia Lines “Wish You Were On It” and “Talk You Out Of It” in addition to co-writing Chris Lane’s new single “I Don’t Know About You.” His debut EP, released in 2016, features the streaming hit “Midnight Daydream.” In addition to opening shows for Sam Hunt and Old Dominion, Rodgers has been selling out clubs throughout the south and Midwest this year. He is currently on the Luke Combs Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour that kicked off in January.
