A MASSIVE 3 ACT MEGA PARTY:

KAYZO

PHASE ONE

CALCIUM

Biography:

KAYZO –

Kayzo is the alias of LA-based DJ/producer Hayden Capuozzo. Recognised as one of Billboard Dance’s 100 Artists of 2019, he is one of the fastest rising electronic artists of the decade.
Kayzo is internationally renowned for his bass-fluid, shapeshifting sound which fuses hardstyle, trap, electronic, bass, dubstep, rock, metal and many more.
Over a career spanning almost a decade, Kayzo has released two critically-acclaimed studio albums, embarked upon his own headline tour, collaborated with the likes of DJ Snake, Steve Aoki, and SLANDER, and produced remixes for top electronic acts such as Jack U, Oliver Heldens, Calvin Harris, Alesso and Skrillex.
On Spotify alone, Kayzo has over 90 million streams and 1.5 million monthly listeners. His latest release, Breakable, released early March 2020, is available to stream here.
A tastemaker in his own right, Kayzo is the founder of his own label – Welcome Records. He also hosts his own radio show – Doghouse Radio – in the US.
On the live front, Kayzo’s genre-defying DJ sets have earned him an international following. To date, he’s performed at some of the world’s top venues and festival stages, including Lollapalooza, Tomorrowland, Bonnaroo, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo, Voodoo, and Parookaville, to name a few.
KAYZO has no boundaries as continues to break barriers that are set up before him. He produces music, not defined as a genre but what he simply likes and enjoys creating. Much of his influence comes from the music he grew up on and the elements can be heard throughout the bodies of work. Outside of production, his mixing and versatile style across multiple genres has created a unique and one of a kind performance.
With the establishment of his “Doghouse” brand, fans have turned to KAYZO to seek more than his music.
KAYZO has went from a graduate student of the production school, Icon Collective, to becoming a winner of Insomniac’s Discovery Project which gave him first chance to showcase himself live. Five years later, KAYZO can now be found traveling as an international DJ performing at festivals and headlining shows across the globe. KAYZO and his Doghouse stand for more than music but a mental determination with a motto that preaches ‘anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it.’

PHASE ONE-

Graeme Duffy, better known by his moniker PhaseOne, has taken the bass music scene by storm over the past several years and shows no signs of stopping. Often combining metal and dubstep, PhaseOne creates a symphony of filth. It’s easy to see why labels like Firepower and Never Say Die have taken such an interest in the Aussie bass prodigy.
Emerging onto the scene in 2013 with a unique take on bass music production he founded himself within the dubstep community with a range of remixes and unique originals, forming his own distinctive style by mixing heavy metal elements with heavy-duty bass. After catching the attention of some of the largest dubstep labels created two EPs with the label Firepower Records, he then signed to Disciple records in January 2017 joining one of the most talked about labels in bass music, where he has since released another 3 acclaimed chart topping EPs as well as a slew of viral hit singles.
In 2018 PhaseOne set out on his most ambitious project to date, to write a full length album. The project will saw him transcend multiple genres as well as reconnect with his metal roots. The album features exciting collaborations with some of the metal, punk and rock scenes most respected bands as well as an exciting list of talented up and coming producers.
Graeme’s sound should come as no surprise, given his background. He started his musical journey in metal bands, first performing throughout Sydney, which inevitably led to his experimentation with electronic music and dubstep. As listeners, we cherish the the drum solos, guitar riffs, and heavy metal accents PhaseOne serves up.
“It’s easier in a lot of ways because I have full control of what I’m doing and don’t have to worry about how anyone feels about a song up until I give it to my manager to listen to.”
One would assume, with all of his musical talent and busy touring schedule, PhaseOne has made producing and DJing a full-time gig by now, right? As it happens, when he is not behind the decks or in the production studio, Graeme works in a TV broadcasting studio back in Sydney. “It’s important to have a backup,” he says, “If this doesn’t work out, then I still have something to fall back on. That’s a lot of what all of this touring I plan on doing in the next few years is about, seeing if this can be a full time gig or not.” With the support he’s gained from Firepower and Never Say Die, and the relationships he’s made in the bass music scene as a whole, it’s hard to imagine NOT seeing PhaseOne a headliner for the foreseeable future.

CALCIUM-

The Houston-based newcomer known as Calcium continues his meteoric rise to fame with the aptly titled Skull Vault EP. A four-tracker built on the foundations of all that is dark and heavy in the dubstep and riddim world, the resulting EP is sure to elevate Calcium even further in the eyes of those who like to stomp it out in the pit.
Most impressively, the young producer’s sound continues to evolve and while the signature skull and bones elements of his early output remains, the power of his vision shines through in a jaw-dropping way as melodic elements and epic intros compete with the untethered fury at the core.
From the goosebump-inducing pain of “Crusher” to the wonky flex of “Comply” and “Break This Down,” it’s obvious that Calcium is hyperaware of the opportunity to pull out all the stops and take advantage of the platform that Black Label is offering up with the EP. This sentiment is best realized on the collaborative killer known as “Turn It Up” where Calcium goes head-to-head with Flix and proves he’s just as much of a beast in collab mode as he is on the solo tip.
It’s obvious that Calcium is here to stay and with the future looking heavier with each and every release we thought it was the right time to sit the youngblood down and figure out what makes his own skull tick.

BTSM: Once Upon A Time In Cyberworld Tour

April 13, 2022 8 PM

at The Bluestone

Columbus, Ohio

BLACK TIGER SEX MACHINE –

The Canadian trio Black Tiger Sex Machine are known for their dynamic rage-ready style, an explosive blend of heavy electro and bass. Their show is a unique experience that strikes the perfect balance between a live performance and a DJ set. Along with their music, their signature Tiger helmets and their apocalyptic Kannibalen world have attracted legions of faithful followers called the BTSM Church.
BTSM were already world-traveling artists before their rise to stardom, which began with their first string of shows in the United States in 2015. In 2016, they released their debut album, Welcome To Our Church, which The Huffington Post hailed as “one of the best electronic albums of the year.” They’ve since gone on several successful headlining tours across North America and received notable festival bookings for 2017 including a highly anticipated return to Electric Forest, as well as appearances at EDC Las Vegas, Lollapalooza Paris, Paradiso and Shambhala. In 2018, Black Tiger Sex Machine had their three part Ceremony Tour, as well as their first foray into Asia, all after dropping their critically acclaimed sophomore album, New Worlds. The album’s lead single “Zombie” currently has over 1 million streams on Spotify.
BTSM also run Kannibalen Records, which has quickly become one of the top independent labels in dance music. Through Kannibalen, they’ve shaped the careers of breakthrough artists like Apashe, Kai Wachi, Dabin, HVDES and more. Kannibalen Records has been recognized worldwide through major publication partnerships with Netflix, Marvel, NBA, HBO, MTV, UFC, adidas, Samsung and more.

KAI WACHI-

Kai Wachi has been a dominant force in bass music since his debut. His thrilling productions continue to break new ground as the Boise creative has become accustomed to bridging different styles for dynamic hybrid works. Although he has been highly acclaimed for extraordinary sound design and his hip-hop signatures, his emotionally driven musical sensibilities are where he truly stands above the rest.
Over the years Kai has established himself as one of the industry’s most promising producers with support from the likes of Excision, NGHTMRE and many more. Records including his debut album, DEMIGOD, which includes collaborations with Famous Dex, Sullivan King, Grabbitz and more, have been particularly integral to his more recent growth, as they’ve mesmerized fellow artists, fans and curators at both Apple and Spotify. He’s also collaborated with the likes of Dylan Matthew, PhaseOne and Apashe, as well as done official remixes for Excision, Tech N9ne, BTSM and Svdden Death.
Kai has been hailed as an MVP at festivals including Lost Lands, EDC Las Vegas, Paradiso and Wobbleland, as well as become a mainstay on Kannibalen Records while touring alongside Black Tiger Sex Machine numerous times. With one of the best independent labels and booking agencies at his back, there is no limit to Kai Wachi’s success in the future where he will continue to advance electronic music forward.

VAMPA –

VAMPA, otherwise known as Emily Mucha, is producer / DJ rising in the North and Southeastern dubstep scenes, bringing a new wave of otherwordly deep bass music to the masses. Through her low end, wobbling frequencies, she allows people to feel the bass resonate and move within themselves, capturing the audience and delivering them to a new kind of heightened experience from right where they’re standing. Her unique sound is represented by her love for the underground, hailing respect from artists she has opened for in the past, including Mija, Boogie T, Trampa, Dubloadz, EPROM, Whipped Cream, Nitti Gritti, Blunts and Blondes, Jphelpz, Xaebor, Yheti and more. Playing sets at Okeechobee Music Festival, Miami Music Week, Hulaween Music Festival, Zen Awakening Festival, Pass the Good Festival, and Fractal Beach, she has gained a dedicated following, seeing her dreams manifest before their eyes as she progresses in the scene. Her mission is to unveil her creative expression to the world and prove to others that there is infinite potential for every person to succeed. Through the perfect blend of logic, creativity, and spiritual inspiration, her visions continue to come to life.

Perhaps you may recall MBFP’s first BIG event, an infamous party we threw at an indoor waterpark / hotel known as “Headless Horseman’s (G)rave”. We expected 500 people to show up. Turned out about 3,000 people thought the idea of partying in a waterpark was pretty sweet. That night ended up being legendary and pretty much put us on the map. Or maybe you recall last year when we threw a really epic Halloween Massive with the darkest of lineups. This year we decided to GO BIG AGAIN !
A similiarly BIG and DARK lineup is confirmed and in store this year. Headliners to be announced soon (like next week). But go ahead and trust us it will definitely fits the vibes for Fright Night.  Epic production including festival like Lighting, Led Screens (Lasers ?) and Haze.

About Turnover

There is a closeness at the heart of Turnover’s aptly titled new album, ‘Altogether.’ Though it’s the first collection the trio has written while living on opposite coasts, the record actually represents the group’s most collaborative and connected work to date, showcasing the intuitive, near-telepathic relationship frontman Austin Getz has developed over the years with his bandmates.

“Instead of making things more difficult, being far apart helped us learn to appreciate each other even more,” says Getz. “As a band, we’re closer now than we’ve ever been before.”

Recorded at Philadelphia’s Studio 4 with longtime creative foil Will Yip at the helm, ‘Altogether’ finds the group breaking new ground on a number of fronts. Pop sensibilities inform the writing for the first time, with elements of funk, jazz, lounge, and disco mingling alongside the band’s trademark indie grit and punk energy. Lush melodies and infectious hooks reflect the newfound freedom and confidence that have inspired Getz since his cross-country move to northern California, while adventurous recording techniques and instrumentation lend a fresh perspective without sacrificing the kind of precise detail and rich intricacies that have come to define the band’s recent studio output. The result is an album that boasts both sonic sophistication and emotional accessibility in equal measure, a major leap forward in sound and vision that reveals time apart as the true key to togetherness.

The title is fitting in another way as well, according to Getz. “On this record, more than in the past, we wanted to keep in mind the beauty of writing ‘popular music,’” he explains. “By that I mean music for people who don’t have the time to delve into the niches and find fringe artists, music for those of us who are busy with work or our families or whatever problems might be around. Music is real magic that can change people’s days and lives, and the more people listening and loving, the better.”

Turnover first emerged roughly a decade ago in Virginia Beach, VA, but the group’s critical and commercial breakthrough didn’t arrive until six years later, when they cracked the Top 5 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart with their acclaimed sophomore album, ‘Peripheral Vision.’ The band—which consists of Getz, his brother Casey on drums, and their childhood friend Danny Dempsey on bass—followed it up in 2017 with ‘Good Nature,’ a streaming smash that racked up roughly 40 million plays on Spotify alone and which Vice proclaimed to be “their best album yet.” Reviews were similarly glowing around the world (Pitchfork praised the record’s “rhythmic propulsion and harmonized guitar sparkles,” while Exclaim! hailed its “shimmering instrumentation and luscious harmonies,” and The Line of Best Fit swooned for its “plush production” and “subtle maturity”), and the album earned the band headline dates everywhere from Brooklyn Steel to The Fonda Theatre along with their first appearance at Coachella.

“With ‘Peripheral Vision,’ I was starting to experiment with psychedelics, and I was feeling alienated from a lot of the things I’d been raised to believe and accept,” Getz reflects. “That album asked a lot of questions, and I felt like ‘Good Nature’ was my attempt to find the answers to those questions. This time around, though, I found myself in a very different place, both literally and metaphorically.”

Starting over from scratch somewhere new, particularly somewhere as rural and isolated as Getz’s new home in northern California, proved more challenging than he had anticipated.

“The move was great in a lot of ways,” he explains, “but the experience also de-romanticized a lot of the notions I had about leaving everything behind and relocating to the woods. I realized I’d been undervaluing a lot of things that were actually really important to me, like having friends and family close by. I had to come to terms with being a stranger and learn how to trust new people and make new connections all over again.”

For the first time, Getz found himself looking inwards instead of outwards for inspiration, writing as an act of self-exploration rather than in response to any external stimuli.

“There was a deepening of my relationship with music that came out of the whole experience,” he explains. “Instead of waiting for some revelation to arrive, I would make myself sit down with a guitar or at the piano and just play until something interesting happened. Often what came out surprised me.”

Sometimes an entire song would reveal itself in ten minutes; other times, Getz would land on a guitar riff or a chord progression that he’d revise for months. The band spent time writing together in-person on tour and during time off in New York and Portland, with Yip flying out to join the band for the latter.

“Will’s much more than just a producer for us at this point,” says Getz. “He’s a close friend and a reliable piece of what our sound has become.”

That sound is the product of a remarkably wide range of influences and tastes, which Turnover synthesizes on the album into a whole far greater than the sum of its parts.

“Working remotely for the most part, everybody was able to send ideas around on their own schedules, and nobody felt too protective of anything, so the new songs started to reflect each of our personalities more than ever before,” says Getz. “Collectively we like everything from jazz to folk, disco to rock and roll, and a lot in between, and it’s where we all intersect that things start to feel special. With the three of us and Will all contributing to the writing together, the songs turned out better than anything any of us could have done on our own. That’s what makes the experience of being a band really unique as opposed to just one artistic mind.”

‘Altogether’ demonstrates the band’s eclectic mix of personalities from the very start, opening with a lo-fi, jazzy intro that quickly gives way to the driving drums and delay-drenched guitar of “Still In Motion.” Like much of the album to come, the song is a meditation on change and perspective, on learning to quiet your mind and appreciate the moment before it’s gone. The bittersweet “No Reply” reckons with guilt over failing to be present with a loved one, while the effervescent “Much After Feeling” recognizes the sacrifices we make to stay connected across geographical distance, and the breezy “Parties” grapples with the kind of self-consciousness that can leave us prisoners of our own design.

“There’s a part in that song where the tone completely changes,” says Getz, “and that represents the moment when your walls finally come down and you start to just appreciate where you are. The lyrics go from describing the nervousness you feel in a particular moment to just describing the moment itself because you’re finally out of your head and able to recognize the beauty that’s all around you.”

Getz taps into that beauty throughout the record, stopping to smell the roses and ground himself in ways that might have seemed impossible even just a few years ago. “Starting to feel at home in the country,” he sings on the hazy “Valley of the Moon,” while the sultry sax of “Ceramic Sky” hints at the simple and sensual pleasures of falling in love, and the playful “Plant Sugar” channels 80’s Britpop as it makes a case for mindfulness.

“I was stressed out when I first started writing that song, but then I looked up at the sky and saw the constellations and felt ridiculous for being worried about anything,” he laughs.

“It reminded me that sometimes you just need a little change in perspective to appreciate how lucky you really are.”

Turns out, that’s all Turnover needed, too.
