Eli Young Band

Eli Young Band Will Perform Live at The Bluestone

This is an All Ages Show

Three Great Artist one Night of Music!!

Eli Young Band

Somewhere in the midst of 10,000 towns, along a lonely highway between packing clubs in their native Texas years ago and more recently performing stadiums on one of country music’s hottest tours, the Eli Young Band became more than a band. They became a brotherhood. Camaraderie and creativity fused into an intoxicating cocktail that has propelled the talented foursome to the vanguard of contemporary country music.

With three No. 1 hits under their belt as well as a Grammy nomination and an Academy of Country Music Award for Song of the Year for their hit “Crazy Girl,” the Eli Young Band approached their second Republic Nashville album, 10,000 Towns, with a sense of confidence and purpose. “We were genuinely excited about making this new record,” says bassist Jon Jones. “People talk about the sophomore record being really tough to make and in a lot of ways this felt like our sophomore record even though it’s technically our fifth record as a band.”

“We learned over the progression of those records our strong points in the studio, and we were confident,” adds drummer Chris Thompson, “We knew what we wanted and how to get what we wanted.”

LOCASH

It’s an exciting time to be LOCASH these days. That might very well be one of the biggest understatements in Nashville. Already in their career, the duo of Preston Brust and Chris Lucas have enjoyed hit singles, sold-out concert appearances here and abroad, and have tasted the top of the chart as two of Nashville’s quickest-rising songwriters. But, to quote the old saying… You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.

Recently signed to Reviver Records, the duo is joining forces with some of the biggest names on the Country Music business landscape. Brust says they could feel the team’s energy from the first meeting. “We haven’t felt an energy like this since the day we began our journey. This feels like it has all come together –the right label head, the right promo team, it finally feels like we’ve got all of our ducks in a row for the first time in our lives. We’ve been out there doing the grass roots thing for so long, and to feel it all come together, is so encouraging.

Musidine Bloodline

Unapologetically Alabama.  There’s a new force making major waves in country music. Natives of Mobile Alabama, Gary Stanton and Charlie Muncaster came together to form Muscadine Bloodline in early 2016.  With three single releases under their belt and a schedule full of shows spanning from coast to coast, they’ve hit the ground running from day 1. Nashville took notice the first time these two stepped on the stage and it’s no surprise the rest of the music world is quickly catching on. Charlie’s [contemporary] vocals complimented by Gary’s harmonies and masterful guitar licks, MB is a powerfully refreshing mix of talent, passion and unfiltered authenticity.  Infamously undaunted by the big stage, their sound intertwines the brash irreverence of early southern rockers with the seductive quality of 90s country love songs. Captivating hooks heard in songs like “Porch Swing Angel” and the aggressively anthemic “Shut Your Mouth” stand as a testament to MB’s wide ranging music-making capability. Every song and every show is a moving experience but at the same time, unmistakably Muscadine Bloodline.

Morgan Wallen Live at The Bluestone

Morgan Wallen Live at The Bluestone

He’s a passionate singer with a unique sound, who grew up in Appalachia, and you’ll be hearing a lot more of MORGAN WALLEN before 2017 is over. Currently out supporting Florida Georgia Line’s explosive DIG YOUR ROOTS TOUR, followed by select dates on THE SMOOTH TOUR 2017, he is climbing Country radio with his Top 30 “The Way I Talk” on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart and has racked up over 7 million Spotify streams (and counting). Offering up the first real taste of his Big Loud Records EP – also titled THE WAY I TALK – Wallen’s drawling, fun-loving anthem penned by hit-makers Ben Hayslip, Chase McGill and Jessi Alexander, plays off the young star’s dynamic vocal delivery and features a sound straight out of the modern South, combining elements of both country and rock

Back when Wallen moved to Nashville in July 2015, he was not sure what he would find, but convinced that he should at least give his dreams a legitimate shot. Less than a year later, he’d already been signed to Big Loud Records, recorded some initial tracks with producer Joey Moi (Florida Georgia Line, Jake Owen) and hit the road on his first radio promotion tour.

It might appear that Wallen’s on the fast track, but it took him a while to get there. Born in Sneedville, Tennessee (a town that also lays claim as the birthplace of bluegrass pioneer Jimmy Martin), to a hard-rock-lovin’ preacher and contemporary-Christian-devoted teacher, he showed his musical interests early, singing in front of the local congregation at age three and asking for a violin for his fifth birthday. He would soon switch to piano and later add guitar to his arsenal, though he never really imagined it was possible to make a career of it.

“I didn’t think that was realistic because I had no clue about how the music business worked,” Wallen admits. “Even living three hours away, I had no idea about Nashville.”

Instead, he focused his efforts on baseball and he was pretty good at it. Playing shortstop and pitcher for Gibbs High School in Corryton – the same school where Kenny Chesney graduated. Wallen earned an offer to continue playing at a major college.

But fate intervened. While pitching during his senior year, he felt a pop in his right elbow and would undergo a tendon replacement procedure. While he was able to continue playing guitar and piano, it proved to be the end of his baseball career.

“Looking back, I’m glad it happened the way it did, because I really actually loved music more than I ever did baseball,” he shares.

The kind of music almost didn’t matter. Rock, hip-hop, country – he loved it all,

particularly the emotional connection that it created between the musician and the listener. But when he wrote, the music was invariably country.

“Writing music was a way for me to get my feelings out,” he explains. “I don’t really express my feelings very much and I guess it was just a way for me to let some of that go. It’s my safe place.”

During extended time in California, Wallen met Sergio Sanchez, the lead singer and writer for Jive Records’ hard-rock band Atom Smash. While Sanchez initially served as Wallen’s vocal coach, they hit it off and started co-writing regularly back in Knoxville. Sanchez brought the music to the attention of producer Paul Trust and partner Bill Ray, who in turn produced an initial batch of songs. From there, things moved quickly. Wallen’s managers, Dirk Hemsath and Mike Bachta of Working Group Artist Management, set him up to play for William Morris Endeavor’s Kevin Neal, agent for Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line. Neal signed him on the spot. Hemsath and Bachta next sent demos to Big Loud Shirt’s Seth England, hoping to land some co-writing opportunities with songwriters at the publishing company. England was so impressed that he brought Wallen in to audition for his partners in Big Loud Records: Craig Wiseman, Clay Hunnicutt, Kevin “Chief” Zaruk and Joey Moi. They signed Wallen to both the label and the publishing company.

Wallen started woodshedding as a songwriter, working with the likes of Wiseman (“Live Like You Were Dying”), Rodney Clawson (“Dirt”), Chris Tompkins (“Drunk On A Plane”), the Warren Brothers (“Highway Don’t Care”), Tommy Cecil (“Home Alone Tonight”) and Matt Dragstrem (“Sippin’ On Fire”). Meanwhile, Big Loud Records proved that it was big-league – while Wallen worked on his own music, the label’s first-ever single, Chris Lane’s “Fix,” shot to #1, an unheard-of start for a brand-new label.

Wallen hopes to build a similar story. His end goal is to continue to be onstage, making that emotional connection with his distinctive sound, as well as releasing his anticipated forthcoming debut album of Big Loud Records.

“We’ve just really been trying to get the focus on the music,” he concludes. “If we don’t have that, then there’s no point in playing.”

3LAU approaches electronic dance music from many unconventional angles. The artist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and entrepreneur born Justin Blau usually begins his compositions on the piano.

“I like to create the framework for a song traditionally and then add the electronic elements later.” It’s a style he’s been cultivating since childhood. Commencing piano lessons at the age of three, he’ll tell you that he couldn’t go to sleep without classical music as a kid. His tastes began to veer towards the likes of Radiohead and Sigur Ros in high school as he taught himself guitar, bass, and drums. During his sophomore year of college, he took a trip to Sweden and fell in love with electronic dance music. Upon returning home, 3LAU began creating.

Taking a leave from college in his junior year, he became a favorite on the club scene through relentless touring, initially turning heads with his innovative mashups. His 2014 original single “How You Love Me” [feat. Bright Lights] dominated radio and closed out 2014 as SiriusXM BPM’s “Most Played Record of the Year.” More recently, Justin realized that he wanted to do more with music, so he launched Blume—the “first not-for-profit dance music label and philanthropic movement.”

With over 5 original releases through BLUME, 3LAU was able to raise 200,000 for Pencils of Promise in 2016, and in 2017 he continues to give to different charities with each new release. For both 3LAU and BLUME it’s just the beginning.

Lewis has been performing solo acoustic shows since he was 17 and still does today. He has written and performed many songs that have never been officially released such as “Angel”, “Something Like Me”, “Bonghits for Breakfast” (originally performed with J-CAT), and “Sleeping at the Wheel”.

In July 2010, Lewis finished recording a country music EP entitled Town Line that was released March 1, 2011 on Stroudavarious Records. It features seven tracks including three versions of the first single “Country Boy” featuring George Jones, Charlie Daniels, and Chris Young, as well as the songs “Massachusetts”, “Vicious Circles”, “The Story Never Ends”, and a re-recording of “Tangled Up in You” originally from The Illusion of Progress.[5] Lewis said in a July 2011 interview that he was introduced to country music as a child by his grandfather, but his interest was recently rekindled when he toured with fellow rock turned occasional country singer Kid Rock.[6]

Lewis performing at the House of Blues in Cleveland in 2013

Lewis released his first full solo album, The Road, in November 2012. Its debut single, “Endless Summer”, has also made the country charts. Lewis wrote every song on the 10 track collection, except for “Granddaddy’s Gun” which was penned by Dallas Davidson, Rhett Akins and Bobby Pinson, marking the first time Lewis has recorded outside material for an album.[7] In an interview with Broadway’s Electric Barnyard, Lewis said he recorded “Granddaddy’s Gun” as both a compliment to a friend, and because he was pressed for time.[8]

Lewis wrote songs for his second solo album whilst touring in support of The Road, often performing the unreleased material in his live sets.[9][10] The album, dubbed Sinner, was mostly recorded in a single 18 hour session, with many tracks done in one take. Aaron’s daughter Zoe also provides guest vocals on one song.[11] It was released on September 16, 2016, with the lead single, “That Ain’t Country”, released on 17 June. Country artist Willie Nelson is featured on the album’s title track as well.

Devin Dawson is a country singer and songwriter with a keen ear for clever turns of phrase and a knack for splitting the difference between rootsy and contemporary. A native of Orangevale, California, Dawson spent his formative years soaking in the sounds of Creedence Clearwater Revival, Alan Jackson, Marvin Gaye, and Johnny Cash. In 2012, he packed his bags and headed to Nashville, where he became ensconced in the Music City songwriting machine, penning songs for other artists. After spending a few years honing his chops, he decided to strike out on his own, and enlisted the help of producer Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Little Big Town, Brothers Osborne). He inked a deal with Warner Music Nashville and released his debut single, “All on Me,” which reached the Top 20 on the Hot Country Songs chart. The track was included on his 2018 full-length debut, Dark Horse, which also included collaborations with songwriters Luke Laird, Josh Kerr, Seth Ennis, and others.

A MASSIVE 3 ACT MEGA PARTY:

KAYZO

PHASE ONE

CALCIUM

Biography:

KAYZO –

Kayzo is the alias of LA-based DJ/producer Hayden Capuozzo. Recognised as one of Billboard Dance’s 100 Artists of 2019, he is one of the fastest rising electronic artists of the decade.
Kayzo is internationally renowned for his bass-fluid, shapeshifting sound which fuses hardstyle, trap, electronic, bass, dubstep, rock, metal and many more.
Over a career spanning almost a decade, Kayzo has released two critically-acclaimed studio albums, embarked upon his own headline tour, collaborated with the likes of DJ Snake, Steve Aoki, and SLANDER, and produced remixes for top electronic acts such as Jack U, Oliver Heldens, Calvin Harris, Alesso and Skrillex.
On Spotify alone, Kayzo has over 90 million streams and 1.5 million monthly listeners. His latest release, Breakable, released early March 2020, is available to stream here.
A tastemaker in his own right, Kayzo is the founder of his own label – Welcome Records. He also hosts his own radio show – Doghouse Radio – in the US.
On the live front, Kayzo’s genre-defying DJ sets have earned him an international following. To date, he’s performed at some of the world’s top venues and festival stages, including Lollapalooza, Tomorrowland, Bonnaroo, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Zoo, Voodoo, and Parookaville, to name a few.
KAYZO has no boundaries as continues to break barriers that are set up before him. He produces music, not defined as a genre but what he simply likes and enjoys creating. Much of his influence comes from the music he grew up on and the elements can be heard throughout the bodies of work. Outside of production, his mixing and versatile style across multiple genres has created a unique and one of a kind performance.
With the establishment of his “Doghouse” brand, fans have turned to KAYZO to seek more than his music.
KAYZO has went from a graduate student of the production school, Icon Collective, to becoming a winner of Insomniac’s Discovery Project which gave him first chance to showcase himself live. Five years later, KAYZO can now be found traveling as an international DJ performing at festivals and headlining shows across the globe. KAYZO and his Doghouse stand for more than music but a mental determination with a motto that preaches ‘anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it.’

PHASE ONE-

Graeme Duffy, better known by his moniker PhaseOne, has taken the bass music scene by storm over the past several years and shows no signs of stopping. Often combining metal and dubstep, PhaseOne creates a symphony of filth. It’s easy to see why labels like Firepower and Never Say Die have taken such an interest in the Aussie bass prodigy.
Emerging onto the scene in 2013 with a unique take on bass music production he founded himself within the dubstep community with a range of remixes and unique originals, forming his own distinctive style by mixing heavy metal elements with heavy-duty bass. After catching the attention of some of the largest dubstep labels created two EPs with the label Firepower Records, he then signed to Disciple records in January 2017 joining one of the most talked about labels in bass music, where he has since released another 3 acclaimed chart topping EPs as well as a slew of viral hit singles.
In 2018 PhaseOne set out on his most ambitious project to date, to write a full length album. The project will saw him transcend multiple genres as well as reconnect with his metal roots. The album features exciting collaborations with some of the metal, punk and rock scenes most respected bands as well as an exciting list of talented up and coming producers.
Graeme’s sound should come as no surprise, given his background. He started his musical journey in metal bands, first performing throughout Sydney, which inevitably led to his experimentation with electronic music and dubstep. As listeners, we cherish the the drum solos, guitar riffs, and heavy metal accents PhaseOne serves up.
“It’s easier in a lot of ways because I have full control of what I’m doing and don’t have to worry about how anyone feels about a song up until I give it to my manager to listen to.”
One would assume, with all of his musical talent and busy touring schedule, PhaseOne has made producing and DJing a full-time gig by now, right? As it happens, when he is not behind the decks or in the production studio, Graeme works in a TV broadcasting studio back in Sydney. “It’s important to have a backup,” he says, “If this doesn’t work out, then I still have something to fall back on. That’s a lot of what all of this touring I plan on doing in the next few years is about, seeing if this can be a full time gig or not.” With the support he’s gained from Firepower and Never Say Die, and the relationships he’s made in the bass music scene as a whole, it’s hard to imagine NOT seeing PhaseOne a headliner for the foreseeable future.

CALCIUM-

The Houston-based newcomer known as Calcium continues his meteoric rise to fame with the aptly titled Skull Vault EP. A four-tracker built on the foundations of all that is dark and heavy in the dubstep and riddim world, the resulting EP is sure to elevate Calcium even further in the eyes of those who like to stomp it out in the pit.
Most impressively, the young producer’s sound continues to evolve and while the signature skull and bones elements of his early output remains, the power of his vision shines through in a jaw-dropping way as melodic elements and epic intros compete with the untethered fury at the core.
From the goosebump-inducing pain of “Crusher” to the wonky flex of “Comply” and “Break This Down,” it’s obvious that Calcium is hyperaware of the opportunity to pull out all the stops and take advantage of the platform that Black Label is offering up with the EP. This sentiment is best realized on the collaborative killer known as “Turn It Up” where Calcium goes head-to-head with Flix and proves he’s just as much of a beast in collab mode as he is on the solo tip.
It’s obvious that Calcium is here to stay and with the future looking heavier with each and every release we thought it was the right time to sit the youngblood down and figure out what makes his own skull tick.

SUBTRONICS –
Jesse Kardon, better known as Subtronics, is a 25-year-old Philadelphia born dubstep producer specializing in all things robotic. His work is heavily influenced by the likes of Rusko, Skism, Tomba and Downlink, and the collective efforts of the underground dubstep community. Taking on a core group of followers over SoundCloud in the first few years, he has grown exponentially in the past few months, gaining support from a plethora of bass music legends. Subtronic’s signature bouncy yet mechanical sound design is matched by his incredibly recognizable flow, setting him apart from the vast sea of up and coming producers around the world.
In 2017 Subtronics released several debut EP’s on some of the biggest labels in bass music. After a solid 2018 tour of near all sellouts he was catapulted to the top of the Bass Music stratosphere. He crushed Lost Lands last year and this. After a killer set this year Subtronics came back to amp up your day with his new five-track EP Wooked On Tronics. With the viral success of “GRIZTRONICS” skyrocketing the producer to the forefront of EDM limelight, it’s fair to say fans were ready for more. The EP includes four original tracks as well as one collaboration with OWSLA artist, Moody Good.
If you are a fan of gritty, wonky, amplified riddim this EP will be right up your alley. The stabs and wobbles will get you headbanging to your heart’s content. The powerhouse tracks will break your eardrums if you aren’t careful, so proceed with caution. Wooked On Tronics is an impressive piece of work, proving again that this artist is at the top of his game.
BOOGIE T-
(NEW ORLEANS)
Born and raised in the swamps of Louisiana, playing and writing music since the tender age of eight, Brock Thornton aka Boogie T. has come along way to bring the low end ruckus. Hailing from the South, the cradle of soul, it is easy to hear this influence in his music. Trap, Dubstep, Riddim, whatever you want to call it, for Boogie T. it has always been about entertaining. Whether playing in bands, acting, DJ’ing or producing, his goal is simple: taking risks and pushing boundaries. And these risks are paying off as in a short amount of time, Boogie T.’s name continues to grow in the electronic music scene.
With releases on Artist Intelligence Agency, Supermart Produce, Damaged Sounds, Blakdout Records and more coming, and recent dates across the country and beyond with Aphrodite, Snails, Trollphace, Funtcase, Midnight Tyrannosaurus, Minnesota, G Jones, LOUDPVCK, Skism, pOgman, Riot Ten and many others, Boogie T. is blazing a path from bayou the to the main stage.
LEVEL UP-
LEVEL UP aka Sonya Broner feels most at home behind the decks. Originally a battle DJ studying under the legendary Rob Swift, LEVEL UP dove into music production after discovering dubstep. Continuously crafting her sound is what makes her feel the happiest and is her truest form of self expression. While at the beginning of her journey, she has already gone on to release music on Deadbeats, GRVDNCR, and Buygore, with much more in the pipeline.
A theatre actress in her youth, her storytelling ability is evident through her music: unfathomably heavy wubs and wobbles, and tricky doubles leave the audience energized and ready for more. She has since gone on a national tour with Subtronics, and graced the stages of Lost Lands, Electric Forest, High Caliber, and more. She just crushed her Summoning Headlining Tour stop in Columbus.
G-Space-
Starting off with keyboards as an infant, he taught himself how to improvise on the piano throughout the years. G-Space has created his own distinct sound that grazes multiple genres, such as; world, funk, jazz, trap, glitch, and bass. He tends to play a set that consists mainly of his originals and the rest is filled with close friends’ music and other artists that he looks up to. G-Space has nested his way into quickly becoming one of the most interesting acts in the scene.
Not only does he play on multiple instruments and create amazing electronic music to match it. He has added a unique visual aspect to his performance. It’s called ‘Tricking’ which by definition, is a style “of extreme sport where the “athletes” do cool, fast, beautiful flips and kicks without any wires or trampolines,” (Defined from Urban Dictionary.) While playing the keytar on stage he is able to do a backflip and other insanely physically demanding and talented tricking skills. Having this special type of performance has been getting him recognized by many, as he has played Imagine Festival, Ultra Festival, and has just recently finished his ‘Euro-Trip Tour’ which spanned across several countries in Europe.

Artist Biography

Lauren Alaina | Sitting Pretty on Top of the World

Ten years into her Nashville career, Lauren Alaina is in the upper echelon of country music’s most authentic voices, beloved personalities, and open hearts. She’s earned a reputation as one of the genre’s most compelling storytellers by boldly incorporating her struggles and heartache into her critically acclaimed first two albums. Lauren’s third studio collection, Sitting Pretty on Top of the World, is an artful evolution of immaculately penned, unflinching reflections of the mountains and valleys on her journey.

Sitting Pretty on Top of the World opens with the telltale sound of a needle dropping down on a record, and with that, Lauren sets the tone for some of the most captivating music of her career. Lauren was inspired to lean into the tenets of classic country music for this project and on the albums lead track, “It Was Me,” she offers a timeless country ballad filled with heartsick self-reflection. Lauren’s voice emotionally soars through the aching, introspective lyrics: “It wasn’t you I didn’t love, it was me.”

“The other person isn’t always the bad guy,” Lauren concedes. “On ‘It Was Me,’ I’m taking full ownership of being in the wrong. It was really hard to admit that I was the one at fault and to realize that I didn’t love myself enough to allow someone else to love me.” But the vulnerable “It Was Me,” co-written with Hillary Lindsey, is a song Lauren considers to be one of the best she’s ever written.

Lauren takes pride in the exposed transparency of her songwriting on this project, and though most writing sessions took place via Zoom, Lauren was crafting verses and choruses alongside the likes of award-winning songwriters including Liz Rose, Lori McKenna, Hillary Lindsey, Emily Weisband, David Garcia, Jordan Reynolds, Ben Johnson and Kennedi Lykken. She co-wrote 14 of the album’s 15 songs, much of it inspired from recent life experiences including two impactful break-ups, the loss of her stepfather, and like much of the world, Lauren struggled with despondency as she adapted to life in the pandemic.

The album’s title track “On Top of the World” delves into the dark reality behind polished facades. Writing the song with Jordan Reynolds and Sasha Sloan after the pandemic forced her to stay home for the first time in a decade, Lauren, in a heightened emotional state, revealed how she felt enveloped in loneliness and sadness.

“I’ve been on the road and touring for 10 years and having that taken away so suddenly felt like an abrupt stop to everything I’ve been working for, and that was a really scary thing for me,” she says, “but the whole world stopped for everybody, and I needed to find new ways to connect with people.”

Lauren applies that same honest vulnerability throughout the album from the harrowing ballad “What Do You Think Of?” featuring Danish Pop Star Lukas Graham, to the pensive flow of “I’m Not Sad Anymore,” to the beautiful simplicity of “Good Ole Boy” with its scaled back production that truly allows Lauren’s vocals to shine.

“This whole thing [album] is about loving yourself and being brave and being strong,” Lauren says. “I was faced with all these trials, and I hope people feel themselves in these songs. I think we all live the same stories with different characters. And maybe people realize new beginnings can be good.”

“Getting Good,” a duet with Trisha Yearwood, is the only song Lauren didn’t write on the album. Penned by Weisband, the song is a poignant truth-telling about choosing to be happy. Drawn to the concept, Lauren says, “Life is all about perspective, and you sometimes you have to shift your perspective.”

Lauren punctuates the lovelorn with the playful yet forthright “When the Party’s Over” and with the propulsive yet nostalgic “Run.”  She also teamed up with Emily Weisband and the album’s producer Paul DiGiovanni to write the lighthearted, here-for-the-fun, rebound tune, “Getting Over Him,” featuring country star Jon Pardi. Lauren rounds out the album with the beautifully hopeful “Change My Mind,” which she co-wrote with Seth Ennis and Cameron Bedell.

Then with the familiar crackle of a vinyl record nearing its end, the album comes to a close. A journey from start to finish. Lauren explores life in these unique times and Sitting Pretty on Top of the World is the salve and the soundtrack for anyone traversing their own personal quest for hope and new beginnings.

ABOUT IAN MUNSICK

Breathing fresh Rocky Mountain air into the Nashville music scene, Ian Munsick is pioneering a new brand of country. The Wyoming-born singer / songwriter’s upbringing was a mix of working the ranch and working crowds. Under the tutelage of their fiddle-playing father, Munsick and his two older brothers grew up playing everything from bluegrass to The Beatles. Incorporating elements across genres, he has now begun to establish himself as a progressive artist with an old soul. Captivated by traditional lyrical truth and the modern soundscape, Munsick followed his ear to Music City.

In 2017 he released a self-titled EP, winning iHeartRadio’s Rocky Mountain Song of the Year for the rootsy “Horses Are Faster” and becoming the only artist who simultaneously qualified two tracks as finalists in the NSAI/CMT songwriting competition. Since then, Munsick has signed a major label record deal with Warner Music Nashville, earned more than 100 million global streams and been named one of Spotify’s inaugural Hot Country Artists to Watch. His debut album Coyote Cry features his mile-high tenor underscoring self-penned songs that conjure equal parts epic adventure and down-to-earth wisdom. The record marks the dawn of western pop-laced country, pulling a thread straight from Chris LeDoux through Post Malone. Munsick hit the road in the fall alongside labelmate Cody Johnson and his own sold-out, headlining dates. He wrapped the year with his Grand Ole Opry debut and is starting 2022 strong as a MusicRow Next Big Thing artist. Fans are finding that with Ian Munsick, western country is reborn.

Paul Cauthen

Columbus, Ohio

Want to get a bead on Paul Cauthen?

Good freakin’ luck — especially on his third album, COUNTRY COMING DOWN.

Suffice to say that the singer, songwriter and proud son of Tyler, Texas — steward of a rich, resonant, bass-leaning tenor dubbed Big Velvet — covers a lot of ground and embodies a lot of characters. He’ll tell you right off the bat that he’s “Country As Fuck,” throwing down a wad of “Fuck You Money” and heading into the night to “Cut a Rug.” His “Country Clubbin'” has as much to do with swinging as his swing. But a song or two later dude’s vowing to be loving his wife “Till the Day I Die” and, in COUNTRY COMING DOWN’s title track, dreams of living in “a cabin in the country, far away from the city lights” where “life is slow and easy.”

The fact that all of that exists within the same guy, who’s full of good humor, sharp wit and a heart as big as his home state is what makes Cauthen someone who’s easy, and exciting, to spend 10 songs with.

“Y’know, you got your bangers and you got your ballads,” Cauthen acknowledges. “You got your meaningful songs where you’re opening up more of your vulnerable side, and then you’re putting on a fucking show — all in one album. And it’s all honest, I’ll tell ya that. Everything on there is something I’ve felt or thought before.”

COUNTRY COMING DOWN has been in motion awhile, actually. The title track, one of several co-writes with good Nashville pal Aaron Raitiere, has been around since before Cauthen’s dark sophomore album ROOM 41. Its sense of campfire calm and “damn near off the map” idyll set a bar, for both music and lifestyle, that Cauthen aspired to, while the rest of the new album, recorded at Modern Electric Sound Recorders in Dallas with regular collaborators Beau Bedford (Texas Gentlemen) and Jason Burt (Medicine Man Revival), shows that Cauthen was able to get there without losing any of the playful “hot dog holly golly dagnabit” good-time spirit that rolls off his tongue like a tumbleweed in the west Texas panhandle.

As he promises in “Country As Fuck,” “I ain’t gotta sell my soul. If I want it then I grab it.”

“I’m having fun,” Cauthen says. “I’ve finally figured it out. I’m more settled and comfortable. I know I’m good at making records and great at entertaining. That’s my gift more than anything, to be able to get up there and deliver these songs to people.”

That gift is part of Cauthen’s DNA, of course, from a family deeply steeped in music. Texan on both sides, his paternal grandfather went to school with Hank Williams while his maternal grandpa, who worked with Buddy Holly and the Crickets during his youth, introduced Cauthen to singing. His grandmother taught him to play piano, while his grandfather and great uncle were the song leader and preacher, respectively, of the local Christian Church of Christ.

“Yeah, I had no choice, really” Cauthen says now. “(Music) is what I call my birddog trait; You don’t have to tell a birddog to jump in the river and grab the duck and bring it back to you. And you don’t have to tell me to get up on stage and perform. That’s what I’m supposed to do. My family enjoyed watching me perform when I was a kid; I would get up in front of everybody at Christmas with my guitar and play ‘Jackson’ with my grandmother. I learned my trade, y’know?”

Cauthen pursued that trade into young adulthood, showcasing at Cheatham Street Warehouse in San Marcos and forming the duo Sons of Fathers, whose early albums were produced by Lloyd Maines. After the group ran its course, Cauthen set off on his own in 2016, recording MY GOSPEL partly in Muscle Shoals, AL.; The album made Rolling Stone’s list of Top 40 Country Records that year. 2018’s HAVE MERCY EP began his association with Bedford and featured contributions by other members of the Texas Gentlemen, and also led to Cauthen’s Grand Ole Opry debut as a solo artist on June 22, 2018.

The critically acclaimed ROOM 41, meanwhile, chronicled and exorcised a rough period in Cauthen’s life, marked by a romantic breakup, substance abuse, depression and anxiety issues. “My growing years were like going to college,” Cauthen confesses. “I just got screwed so many times by so many different people on this whole freakin’ journey. I had this void I was trying to fill in my heart, with booze or any type of, just, abuse. I made every stupid mistake you can make in the business, and in life, in order to learn ’em all.
“I don’t feel that hurt anymore. I’ve changed.”

Marriage helped, he says. So did cleaning house and restructuring the business operation that surrounded him. That allowed Cauthen to plunge into COUNTRY COMING DOWN with a lighter heart and wicked humor — one that allowed him to find the profound meaning in a “schmoozie bougie brouhaha.”
If you want to know what that sounds like, tuck into the album’s sonic array, an austere, sinewy attack that puts Cauthen’s vocals dead center in the ride. “We’ve really unleashed Big Velvet in this situation, which I love,” he says. Nowhere is that more true than “Country As Fuck,” with a taut groove and loping gait tailor made for a 21st century honky tonk. Cauthen, Bedford and Burt play with that template throughout COUNTRY COMING DOWN, punctuating “Caught Me At a Good Time” with a sharp guitar solo, “High Heels” with a tasteful Wurlitzer break and the satiristic “Country Clubbin'” with a disco beat and chorus of female backing vocals.

But just when you buy in — and happily convert — to Cauthen’s brand of unapologetic hedonism, the soul comes out. “Till The Day I Die” smoothes his raw heart with the promise of true and lasting love, while the stock-taking “Roll On Over” takes a wistful look in his rearview mirror. And “Country Coming Down” realizes a dream of calm — although not exclusive of the next sojourn with “Champagne & a Limo.”

I’m always on a quest, sonically,” Cauthen explains. “I was wanting to go at this just serving the song, more, ‘What does this call for?’ rather than worrying about genre or sonic palette or any certain sound. I had a lot of these songs brewing for a long time, and we just let them grow on their own.”

His muse fully engaged, Cauthen is looking towards doing more of that in the future, with a few conceptual ideas up his sleeve about what he might do next. No matter what direction he takes, however, he won’t be abandoning that cabin in the hills or the “Country Clubbin'” life; Cauthen will just be adding more to the mix he’s stirred together.

“It’s just about looking at yourself in the mirror and knowing that what you’ve done to this day has been in good standing, with good morals and a good compass in life, driven the right way,” he says. “Legacy is all we have — that, and try to be a good person as well. If you get all that together, then you can do whatever the fuck you want and it’ll be alright.”
